MEST Shipyard to build new freezing trawler for Varðin

MEST Shipyard has signed a contract to build a new freezing trawler for fishing company P/F Varðin in the Faroe Islands. The vessel is expected to be delivered in mid-2026.

The vessel is equipped to live up to future requirements and has been designed through a very close collaboration between the ship owner and MEST Shipyard. This is the shipyard’s newbuilding 118 and the team has focused on optimized solutions, based on many years’ experience. The vessel has an overall length of 44,15 metres and a breadth of 11,60 metres. The freezing trawler is equipped with an advanced Wartsila-25 engine with a power of 2611HK. This an engine with a very good fuel economy – a future proof engine easy to rebuild into green solutions in the future.

The conditions onboard are designed carefully to live up to the requirements from the crew. The vessel has a freezing capacity of 40 tonnes/day.

“We at P/F Varðin are delighted that the new trawler will be built in the Faroe Islands. MEST has built a number of trawlers and has recently delivered the new Oceanic Research vessel “Jákup Sverri” – so we chose MEST to be responsible for our newest vessel”, says Bogi Jacobsen, CEO at Varðin.

It was a very satisfied Mouritz Mohr, who signed the contract with Varðin. “Today is a big day for us at MEST Shipyard. It is important for us as a seafaring nation that we maintain the skills and craftsmanship of shipbuilding in the Faroe Islands. And the fact that we are competitive compared to our neighboring countries, is especially something to be happy about”, said Mouritz Mohr CEO at MEST Shipyard.
