DFDS - 2030 conversion and newbuild programme

Wow, what a big surprise !
This will be the first big step in a big future for RoPax-Catamarans ! In use on one of the biggest ferry-route worldwide !

My former proposal was these Catamarans to operate from Ramsgate to Vlissingen -
and now they use them from Dover to Dunkerque (or to Calais ?)
https://incat.com.au/incat-vessels/cpv2099/
Planned Speed for these Cats is not 35 or 40 knots - but only around ca. 25 knots, but still faster than the often used 18 knots from RoPax.
Capacity ca. 245 cars + 60 17m trailer.
Let´s hope that they will extend the passenger-areas more, these are on the Incat-renderings really small, 1200 people pressed together... .

Other advantages than a little bit faster speed for DFDS against P&O, Irish Ferries etc.:
- Cats are much cheaper to built than RoPax-ferries
- Needed crew is much smaller than on RoPax-ferries
- Light-weight = less electric-power consumption than on RoPax-ferries
- Fast and easy turn-around in ports, faster acceleration, faster breaking

So this a very positive step ! Congratulations DFDS for this decision !
My spculation: They will replace the both former Seafrance-ferries, Cote de Dunes and Cote de Flandres.
And further: If the first 2 Cats will be successfully, DFDS will order more for the Channel-routes.

Than the both RoPax-newbuildings for Newcastle:

Positive that they invest now finally and replace the both very old cruise-ferries there.
But the DFDS rendering looks more similar like a better upgraded E-Flexer than a Cruise-ferry.
So we can be happy about new ferries - but i fear here a downsizing in Pax-capacity and a downgrading in Cruise-comfort.
Let`s hope that they extend the public-spaces and areas, pax-capacity etc. during the planning-process.
