Québec Davie shipyard has been appointed by Transport Canada to design and build new generation Ropax for Magdalen Island (Les îles de la Madeleine). The ferry -to be delivered in 2027- will replace the legendary MADELEINE.

The new ship will be named JEAN LAPIERRE and I found a profile design of the ship concept. Since the building process is really slow in North America I am not sure if this will be the final design, but it does give a good idea of the final thing.

Capacity wise the new vessel seems smaller than the MADELEINE II (former Viking ADCC ; VILLA DE TEROR) which has been bought by Transport Canada to ensure smooth transition between former MADELEINE and upcoming JEAN LAPIERRE.

I can see what seems to be a gas mast signifying that LNG may be considered. Otherwise the design is simple with one main deck where all common areas are concentrated and a top deck dedicated to few cabins as well as crew.
