A new ferry for French Pacific oversea territory of New Caledonia is being built near Singapore (likely Batam in Indonesia) for local operator CMI (Compagnie Maritime des Iles).

Not all technical details are available about the new ship. We know its name: HAVANNAH 2. HAVANNAH 2 will have space for 250 passengers and will operate lifeline ferry service between Main island port of Nouméa, Pines island and Loyalty island sub archipelagoes.

The ship will sail overnight without cabins but will rather accommodate its passengers in reclining seats lounges.

The freight capacity is not known at this stage but a stern ramp will allow to load almost all kind of cargo.

Machinery & propulsion is also unknown at this stage but we know it will be sufficient to allow a 12 knots service speed.

HAVANNAH 2 is a natural replacement for HAVANNAH built in 2002 and which has served New Caledonia until 2012.
