High-speed Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV)
Njord Forseti has been involved in a collision whilst servicing the
Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm off the coast off Germany. Three people were injured on board in the collision, one of them seriously according to Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (
DGzRS) or German Maritime Search and Rescue Association.
At 6:25 p.m. the Njord Forseti reported to the emergency services after the radio collision. It reported that three crew members had been injured and water had entered the vessel. Water penetrated through a crack about half a meter long. At the time of the incident, the 26-meter CTV was located about 24 nautical miles (around 45 kilometers) north of Borkum and had collided with a turbine.
DGzRS deployed its new lifeboat SK 40 to support emergency response efforts. Emergency medical personnel aboard the
Siem Barracudastarted the initial care of injured personnel from the
Njord Forseti .
DGzRS alerted Northern HeliCopter's emergency helicopter crew that was manned by an emergency doctor to the incident. The rescue helicopter flew the seriously injured individual to the University Hospital Groningen, Netherlands. It also transported another person to Westerstede. The CTV
Njord Zephyr also supported rescue efforts transporting an injured person ashore.
The crew of the damaged casualty managed to keep the water leak under control using on-board equipment. SK 40 accompanied the vessel to Lauwersoog, Netherlands.
There has been no further information on the status of the injured personnel or the extent of the damage to the
Njord Forseti. The vessel is owned by Ventus Marine Ltd and managed and operated by Njord Offshore.
