Semarak Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (SeRenE) has signed an agreement with Singapore-based marine and offshore services provider Megamas Resources to develop subsea cable vessels.
KUALA LUMPUR: Semarak Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (SeRenE) has signed an agreement with Singapore-based marine and offshore services provider Megamas Resources to develop subsea cable vessels.
Under this strategic partnership, a new joint venture company, Semarak MIS Sdn Bhd, will be established to focus on developing fuel-efficient vessels for the installation and maintenance of offshore renewable power cables and subsea fiber-optic telecommunications cables.
The collaboration aims to support the expanding offshore wind sector by managing inter-array and export power cables, which are crucial for connecting offshore wind farms to the electrical grid.
Additionally, it is expected to enhance regional telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring robust and efficient connectivity across Southeast Asia.

According to SeRenE, each vessel will measure approximately 120 meters in length, with a 23-meter beam and a deadweight capacity of 8,000 tonnes.
Designed in collaboration with Norway's Ulstein Design & Solutions, the vessels will incorporate cutting-edge hull technology to minimise motion and enhance operational efficiency, even in challenging sea conditions.
Operations are slated to commence by mid-2027.
The project is supported by key industry partners including Chalfouh LLC (USA), Crewstone International, and Symphonet.
SeRenE managing director Muhammad Shahil Ishak said this partnership brings together expertise in renewable energy and subsea infrastructure, accelerating offshore energy solutions and contributing to a cleaner, greener future for Southeast Asia.
"We are excited to join forces with Megamas Resources and our strategic partners," he said in a statement.
Muhammad Shahil also added that the collaboration will not only enhance regional infrastructure but also create new job opportunities, contributing significantly to Malaysia's green economy.
He noted that by aligning with global sustainability goals, the partnership is set to drive carbon reduction efforts and accelerate the adoption of clean energy across Southeast Asia.
