Cruise ship Mardi Gras delivered to Carnival Cruise Line from Meyer Turku shipyard

18.12.2020. Turku. Meyer Turku has today delivered a 180 000 gross tonnage, LNG powered cruise ship to the world’s largest cruise ship operator Carnival Cruise Line. The delivery is a very important step for the yard especially under the actual circumstances of the COVID19 crises.

“We are delivering a beautiful and highly advanced ship with world-class technology such as LNG propulsion, to name just one. With these sophisticated systems, she will be one of the most environmentally friendly ships to sail the North-American waters. I am very proud of our team of shipbuilders and would like to thank everyone involved of their dedication during the building process”, CEO of Meyer Turku, Tim Meyer, states.

Mardi Gras has classical ship lines and predominately blue hull. The ship’s centerpiece is a three-stories-high atrium in the middle of the ship, opening up to a floor-to-ceiling window and movable LED screens. From the atrium, passengers are able to enjoy a close connection to the sea and marvel the views.

Another marvel of the ship is of course Bolt, the first ever roller coaster build on a ship. Bolt lets you to do the driving, you will be able to control the speed of the ride with a top speed of 64km/h. Designing and building a rollercoaster is never easy – imagine doing so on a cruise ship.

Mardi Gras venues, dining and entertainment has been dispersed throughout six distinctive zones and guests will have the choice of more than 2600 staterooms and 180 suites across eleven categories.

With this delivery, we can now focus our collective efforts on the building of her sister ship, Carnival Celebration, which will arrive from Turku in 2022 in time for our 50th birthday,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Mardi Gras is planned to enter service from Port Canaveral, Florida in April 2021.

Carnival Celebration floated out at Meyer Turku shipyard

11.2.2022, Turku, Finland. The 185 000 GT Cruise ship Carnival Celebration was floated out to the outfitting keel today at Meyer Turku shipyard, Finland. As indicated by her name, the LNG powered vessel will mark the culmination of Carnival Cruise Lines 50th birthday. The float-out started on Friday morning local time with the opening of the building dock valves and will culminate during the weekend.

“We are very proud to build this beautiful ship for Carnival Cruise Lines. The Float out marks the beginning of a very intensive phase in the ships construction, as we the inside features and venues will start taking form. By the end of the summer Celebration will be ready for her sea trial and then for delivery later in the autumn”, CEO of Meyer Turku, Tim Meyer, says.

“This is the exciting part, after the float out, that’s when everything that everyone will love about the ship goes from blueprint to reality,” said Ben Clement, senior vice president of New Builds, Refurbishments and Product Innovation for Carnival Cruise Line, who was in Finland to oversee the milestone. “When there’s a new ship coming, it’s always tough to pick your favorite part, but Carnival Celebration is going to make that choice tougher than ever when she makes her way to Miami.”

Carnival Celebration is a second Excel-class ship built at Meyer Turku for Carnival Cruise Lines. Her sister ship Mardi Gras is already sailing Port Canaveral, Florida, US. The ship has several exciting features and attractions, chief among many BOLT roller coaster. In the middle of the ship is a large open space atrium, giving the passengers a possibility to admire beautiful sea-views while cruising. Three of the six distinct zones inside have been designed specifically for Celebration.

Carnival Celebration is scheduled to enter service in November 2022 with a trans-Atlantic voyage from Southampton.
